Every key is a sound.
MashKey started from a simple observation: almost everyone already owns an instrument with a hundred keys on it. The letters play notes in a scale chosen so nothing sounds wrong, the number pad is a drum kit, and loops run underneath while you play. A beat takes a minute to record, and in the Song Lab it grows sections, lyrics and a melody hummed straight into the microphone. Finished work goes to a public gallery to be played, sung along to and remixed, and three coaches help with the layout, the rhythm and the next song.
